Lactation Consulting

“While the body's production of breast milk is natural following the birth of a baby, the act of breastfeeding is a learned skill for mother and baby.”
- Peggy O’Mara, Having A Baby, Naturally

La Shel and Jamin provide home visits and phone consultations to new mothers who may be experiencing challenges with latch on, engorgement, sore nipples, plugged ducts, mastitis or low milk supply and offer the support needed to foster success for the breastfeeding family. If you are a breastfeeding mother, they can help you! Even the most experienced mothers can be faced with breastfeeding challenges.

They can also help with a sleepy baby, a fussy/colicky baby, or a baby with slow weight gain. They want to provide the education and support needed to foster success for the breastfeeding family through access to medically responsible information and basic to advanced breastfeeding techniques.

Breastfeeding should be an enjoyable experience for both the mother and the baby. The first objective is always to have a well-fed baby; however, breastfeeding can and should be more then just feeding your baby. It should be an enjoyable bonding in which the mother and baby feel comfortable and nurtured. They believe the experience should reach deep into the heart, creating strong feelings of love and trust, nurturing both spirit and body for the child.

Breastfeeding has many benefits for your baby:

  • • Breast milk increases immunities for your baby

  • • Breastfeeding meets the emotional needs of babies and can help them feel more secure

  • • Breast-fed babies have fewer allergies, ear infections, digestive & respiratory illnesses, or fewer bouts with colic

  • • Breast milk is perfect for babies since mother’s milk changes to meet the new nutritional needs as baby grows
