San Diego Midwife requires payment in full from all clients by 36 weeks. After your birth, our third-party biller can bill your insurance provider (see details below) to see what reimbursement you may be eligible to receive directly from the insurance company for our out-of-network services.

We have a 72 hr cancellation policy for initial visits with a $150 late cancel or no-show fee
(No-shows or late cancellations leave our providers with a gap in their schedule that can be difficult to fill for other clients who need care!)
$900 non-refundable retainer due at the initial visit
Remaining non-refundable balance due at 36 week visit
We accept cash, check, venmo or credit card (with a convenience fee)

You are guaranteed 1 midwife and 1 birth assistant at your birth but we usually always attend births together!

Holistic prenatal care
A full schedule of prenatal visits: 1x/month until 28 weeks, 2x/month until 36 weeks, 1x/week until 40 weeks, and more visits as required past 40 weeks
Prenatal visits are located at: 451 La Veta Ave, Encinitas CA 92024
Home visits at 36-37 weeks, 24 hours, 72 hours
2 scheduled postpartum visits in the office plus additional as needed
Any additional visits necessary throughout the period of care
Email communication for any questions that arise between appointments
24/7 access to our midwife phone line and on-call support for emergencies or from 37 weeks +
If needed a labor and birth professional transfer of care and continued telehealth midwife support throughout the process
10% off practitioner-grade prenatal vitamins from our online dispensary & access to our midwife-approved supplement protocols
Prenatal Education and individualized counseling
All standard prenatal lab workups & referrals for ultrasounds as needed (can bill insurance or use our discounted co-op lab services for cash payers)
Appropriate referrals and recommendations for other holistic providers as needed
Non-medicated & natural/physiological birth support
Immediate postpartum lactation support

Your Insurance Benefits
PPO Insurance almost always covers some percentage of homebirths and birth center births. In California, if you have maternity coverage on your policy, the law mandates coverage for Licensed Midwives. Unfortunately, HMO plans do not cover expenses out-of-network and would be considered cash pay.
Although your policy may cover midwifery and homebirth, many insurance companies do not pay the total fee for services, in spite of what they may claim. San Diego Midwife retains a professional insurance claims representative.
If you have a PPO and would like to check your homebirth benefits please pay the $25 fee and follow the instructions for the verification process and then schedule your initial discovery call with a midwife.

For 16 years, San Diego Midwife has been supporting military families. We understand the challenges that come with the military lifestyle and are happy to be able to give back to those who sacrifice so much. We will help accommodate any unique situations these families are in and encourage family participation, no matter the distance.
San Diego Midwife gives huge discounts to their military families for both homebirths and births at Tourmaline Birth Center.
*We currently are able to offer one military discount per month so if you are interested in birthing with us please book as soon as possible to reserve care with our team and take advantage of our military discount.

Want to birth with us but have flexible payment options?
We are happy to offer financing options to help our families achieve their birthing goals with flexible payment plans. We offer this for both our regular fees and with the military discount but please note that financing does include convenience fees on top of our midwifery fees. We work with a third-party loan provider called Affirm which allows you to make payments over the course of 6 months, 12 months or 36 months. If you would like this option, we have to make sure that you qualify with Affirm before starting care (or a backup form of payment will be required).
To proceed, first schedule a complimentary 10-minute discovery call with a midwife. We will send you an online intake form to make sure that we have availability during your due date, that we service your location and to see if you are a good and healthy candidate for an out-of-hospital birth. This will be an opportunity to ask any basic questions about our care and if we seem like a good fit, we can then schedule a virtual consult.
